Pakistan is located in South East Asia. It was founded as an Islamic Republic in 1947 after the British Raj ended in the Indian sub-continent. Islamabad is the capital of Pakistan. Karachi and Lahore are the largest and second largest cities respectively and also major cultural and economic centers. Pakistan has four provinces: Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan and NWFP. Each province has distinct cultures, traditions and even languages. Pakistan shares borders with India, Afghanistan, Iran, and China. The population of Pakistan is nearly 180 million, making it one of the world’s most densely populated state. Pakistan has four diverse seasons making its climate favourable for the country’s large agricultural base. It has a strong history and culture. Pakistan is a member of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations and SAARC.
